Sister Patricia's Newsletter
St. Peter School
March, 2010
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Today is Ash Wednesday! The season of Lent is here! When you talk with your children about Lent,
these questions may help you think of things you could do as a family: What can we do together this
Lent? Who can we reach out to? What can we do for our parish or for our city or for people who
need our help? When would be a good time for us to pray together every day/every week in Lent?
As you decide on something to do as a family, keep in mind that the season of Lent is about turning our hearts to God. Perhaps what you decide to do during Lent can become something you can do as a family all year long.
THANK YOU
A huge thank you goes out to all of our students who participated in the North Ridgeville Community Care food drive and to the parents who supported it! We have had many opportunities to reflect on how blessed we are as individuals and as families. Thank you, parents of PTU, for helping us to share our blessings.
DIOCESAN TESTING PROGRAM
The students in grades 1-7 will take achievement tests during the first two weeks of March. The students in grades 3, 5, and 7 also take cognitive abilities tests during this time. We will set aside the first two hours of the school day for testing during the first week in March. We highly encourage all the students, especially during this time, to get to bed early and start the day with a good breakfast to help them do their best on these tests. It is also very important that students be present and on time for school each day in order to take these tests. We count on you to take this message to heart!
REGISTRATION FOR 2010-2011
Registration for the 2010-2011 school year is taking place now. Please remember to turn in your re-- registration forms if you have not done so. If you wish to have a PSAS form, please ask for it. The processing fee is payable to PSAS. Our parish Finance Council has given us only ONE date by which PSAS forms must be completed in order to be eligible for tuition assistance: March 12 is the deadline for us.
NIGHT AT THE RACES
Our PTU Night at the Races is coming up on April 10. Please come to this wonderful fundraiser and have a great time with family, friends, and co-workers. It’s a great way to support St. Peter School’s technology fund! Thank you for your participation in the ongoing calendar raffle! Every day someone wins a prize!! What fun! Thank you, PTU, for such an ingenious fundraiser!
INFORMATION FOR 2010-2011 KINDERGARTEN CLASS
On Monday evening, April 26, at 7:00 PM, we will meet with the parents of the new Kindergarten class to explain the details of this year’s Pre-Kindergarten Assessment, which is scheduled for May 3 and May 4. This meeting will take place at St. Julie Billiart Church in their Holy Family Meeting Room.
COMING TO SCHOOL LATE
We ask parents and guardians to remember to come to the second floor office to sign in students who are late getting to school in the morning. We need to know that students are really here, that they receive their hot lunch cards and that they are in class. Thank you so much for following this rule.
REMINDER: SCHOOL CLOSING BECAUSE OF WEATHER
When it snows, stay tuned to FOX 8 NEWS. Please do not call the school, convent, parish center, or radio station. All closing information is scrolled continuously. School closings can also be heard on AM 930 (radio). In general, our policy is to do whatever the North Ridgeville City School district does in inclement weather.
Announcements
Kindergarten classes will not meet at all on Monday, May 3, or Tuesday, May 4. The teachers will be involved in pre-kindergarten assessment. We built in these days in the kindergarten calendar for this purpose.
Lenten mission folders will be sent home on February 25. Any coins that your children collect will be split between El Salvador and the Notre Dame India Mission. Last fall, Fr. Doug’s friend (who is a fourth grade teacher in El Salvador) came to visit our school and share with our students the plight of so many families.
They have only one textbook! We would like to help their school children in some way to make learning easier. Let’s fill our folders! Our Sisters are helping the women in the provinces to build wells. They have no clean water! Let’s help in any way we can!
There is no uniform measuring date at school. School Belles will send us flyers for ordering purposes. Lands’ End will send catalogs. Both companies welcome online ordering. For the 2010-2011 school year, grades 1-5 will wear Lands’End uniforms. Grades 6-8 will wear School Belles uniforms. Check out hand-me-downs at our PTU functions.
Our Catholic Universe Bulletin drive is over on Friday, February 26. If you receive additional subscriptions, please send them to the U.B. office yourselves. The address is on the envelope.
Our last day of school before Easter vacation is Wednesday, March 31 and it is an early release day (1:10 PM dismissal). We return to school after Easter on Monday, April 12.
The quarter closes on March 19 and report cards will be given on March 25. We have our quarterly Honor Assembly on this date as well. Do continue your relationship with your child’s teacher to support your child’s success in school.
Our PTU Malley’s candy sale is on and runs through February 25. Candy delivery is scheduled for March 16. Enjoy some good candy and support our PTU’s project!
Let us continue to pray for each other, that as we journey with our Lord during the forty days of Lent, we may notice one another and draw closer to one another.
Lovingly,
|
