St. Peter School

March, 2008

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We are in the midst of the season of Lent! When you talk with your children about the season, perhaps these questions will help you think of things you could do as a family: What can we do together this Lent? Who can we reach out to? What can we do for our parish or for our city or for people who need our help? When would be a good time for us to pray together every day/every week in Lent? As you decide on something to do as a family, keep in mind that the season of Lent is about turning our hearts to God. Perhaps what you decide to do during Lent can become something you can do as a family all year long. St. Julie Billiart and St. Peter Parishes are having a joint retreat on the evenings of February 25, 26, and 27. If you do not have a parish bulletin with the details, please call to find out about this special Lenten opportunity.

DIOCESAN TESTING PROGRAM The annual diocesan testing program takes place from February 25- March 7 for grades 1-7. We highly encourage all the students, especially during this time, to get to bed early and start the day with a good breakfast to help them do their best on these tests. It is also very important that students be present each day--at least in the morning-- in order to take these tests. We are using the first 2 and one-half hours of the school day for these achievement tests. Thank you for helping us!

REGISTRATION FOR 2008-2009 Registration for the 2008-2009 school year is taking place now. If you wish to have a PSAS form, please ask for it. The processing fee is payable to PSAS, and is included in the envelope when you mail the form. A PSAS form must be completed in order to be eligible for diocesan tuition assistance or parish assistance. March 1 is the deadline for returning these forms to PSAS. There are NO exceptions; there is no other deadline! Remember: tuition down payment, the annual agreement, and the F.A.C.T.S. form are due on or before May 1, 2008. All forms are being collected at the Parish Center. Please welcome many other families to our school! We have some new ideas to implement for the coming school year!

NIGHT AT THE RACES Our PTU Night at the Races is coming up on April 5. Please come to this wonderful fundraiser and have a great time with family, friends, and coworkers. It's a great way to support St. Peter School. (We thank our PTU for all of these wonderful events that make a difference for our school!)

INFORMATION FOR 2008-09 KINDERGARTEN CLASS On Monday evening, March 31, at 7:00 PM, we will meet with the parents of the new Kindergarten class to explain the details of this year's Pre-Kindergarten Assessment, which is scheduled for April 21 and April 22. This meeting will take place at St. Julie Billiart Church.

REMINDER: SCHOOL CLOSING BECAUSE OF WEATHER When it snows, stay tuned to FOX 8 NEWS. Please do not call the school, convent, parish center, or radio station. All closing information is scrolled continuously. School closings can also be heard on AM 930 (radio). In general, our policy is to do whatever the North Ridgeville City School district does in inclement weather.

Announcements

Kindergarten classes will NOT meet at all on Monday, April 21 or Tuesday, April 22. The teachers will be involved in pre-kindergarten assessment. We built in these days in the kindergarten calendar for this purpose.

Messages to students to change transportation, etc., are expected to be communicated by you before sending your child/children to school. Please do not expect us to deliver messages at 2:00 PM. It is too late. Everyone is preparing for closing announcements and dismissal at 2:05 PM. Please remember that a change of transportation requires a written note from parents.

There is no uniform measuring date this year. School Belles will send us flyers for ordering purposes. Lands' End (grades 1, 2 and 3) will be doing the same. Look for information about this soon in the family folders.

Malley’s Easter Candy orders were due on February 19--yesterday! Hopefully, all are in!On March 15, Giant Eagle’s annual APPLES FOR THE STUDENTS program ends. We hope that we will be able to get a new computer with the points you have given us!

Our Catholic Universe Bulletin drive ends on February 29. If you receive additional subscriptions after this date, please send them to the U.B. office yourselves. The address is on the envelope.

Our last day of school before Easter vacation is Wednesday, March 19, the feast of St. Joseph . We return to school after Easter on Monday, March 31. The quarter closes on April 4 and report cards will be given on April 10. (The grade 4-8 Honor Assembly is this same day at 1:30 PM in church.)

Do continue your relationship with your child's teacher to support your child's success in school. You are so important in the education process!

Our teachers have inservice day on April 11, so the students do not have school on this day.

Finally, let us continue to pray for each other, that as we journey with our Lord during the forty days of Lent, we may draw closer to Him and to each other.

In His love,
