Seventh Grade: Mrs. Verbus

Mrs. Verbus has been involved in teaching in some aspect since her graduation from college.  Originally teaching in southern Ohio and then returning to the north, she has taught grades six through high school  Upon the birth of her first child, she stopped teaching full time and devoted the following years to raising her children.  Both children attended St. Peter School.  When her second child was in sixth grade she had the opportunity to become a substitute teacher at St. Peter.  St. Peter has always been held dearly in her heart and when the opening for a full-time teacher presented itself she was more that delighted to become part of the staff.  Mrs. Verbus loves reading, visiting her children in Chicago and Providence, going to lectures and plays.  Her two cats are important members of the family.

The Junior High years present the opportunity for students to become more focused and independent regarding the blending of school and social aspects.  The curriculum builds on those skills introduced and honed during the previous years.  Social Studies in sixth grade is World History and covers many topics dealing with civilizations.  Seventh and eight grade Social Studies covers the onset of exploration in the New World and continues through the Civil War.  Reading for all grade levels addresses the many types of genres while focusing on the analysis of character development, conflict, cause and effect, and plot development.  Students will have many opportunities to explore reading material of their own choosing.

The philosophy of St. Peter School is one that nurtures and guides the students through life and is found in every class offered.  This is where St. Peter School shines.  The combination of academic and spirituality is a recipe for each child becoming the person they are supposed to be.
