Second
Grade: Mrs. Schneider, 2B
I grew up in Elyria and attended St. Jude School and Elyria Catholic. I received a Bachelor of Arts in Business Education from Bowling Green State University. I’ve taught keyboarding, shorthand, and bookkeeping at the Junior High and High School level in the public school system for five years. I’ve also taught keyboarding at LCCC part time for a year. After my second maternity leave, I attended Ashland University to be recertified at the elementary level. This is my 22nd year at St. Peter School.
My husband and I have two daughters, both of whom are St. Peter graduates. Both my daughters are also teachers. Angela teaches 2nd and Julie teaches math and science at the 5th grade level.
I like to spend time with my family, especially my two grandchildren, listen to country music, and work Sudoku puzzles. I also belong to a Canasta Card Club.
Second grade is an exciting year, spiritually and academically. We discuss how we became children of God at Baptism. We learn about God’s loving forgiveness in the Sacrament of Reconciliation, and we also learn about the Mass in preparation of receiving First Communion.
Core curriculum includes higher reading comprehension. We work on vocabulary, looking for context clues, main idea and details, story setting, cause and effect, making predictions, sequencing, comprehension, and summarizing. Our math series, Saxon, develops a strong foundation and reinforces all skills taught.
Children are encouraged to share their spiritual and educational growth both at home and at school.
We try to take advantage of grade-level educational field trips when they are offered. We have enjoyed trips to Stocker Center, Great Lakes Science Center, and Sandy Ridge Nature Center.
If you ask the students what they look forward to in second grade, they will say receiving the Sacraments and learning cursive. |
